Parliament is a brand of cigarette manufactured by Phillip Morris. Parliaments are distinctive for their recessed paper filter. Parliaments are characterized by a sharp, tangy flavor. Parliament occupied strong positions in Japan, Argentina, Israel, Turkey, Russia and USA. Parliament cigarettes were first introduced in the year 1931 and they are currently manufactured and distributed by Philip Morris Company. They are best known for their recessed filter, but there were some rumors that filters were used for recreational cocaine snorting. But these were just rumors and there was no malice in such a move by the producing company. What more the recessed filter was actually included to reduce the harmful effects caused by nicotine and tar to the smoker.

Parliament cigarettes are hugely popular in Russia but are fairly unknown in the European countries. They have a fairly large fan base in the United States; many of its followers are young people in their early 20's. Philip Morris Company tried many advertising campaigns to promote this brand. Actor Charlie Sheen was roped-in to act in one of their advertisements for Parliament in the 1990's.
